The ACRTC Board

The base address of the ACRTC Board is fixed at AAxxxx. It is essential that no other add-in boards occupy the same address space. Before proceeding remove all non-essential boards or change the base address of any add-in boards that conflict.

To test the ACRTC Board attach a standard VGA monitor to the boards DE-15 interface and follow the instructions below.

1. Download the following file:

acrtc_diagnostics_v1.12 added initialisation of ACRTC and display of test pattern at run time
  or an earlier version:

acrtc_diagnostics_v1.11 added output to Hex Display Board in register r/w test

acrtc_diagnostics_v1.10 added modify register and register r/w tests

acrtc_diagnostics_v1.00 initial release
2. Use a text editor to open the downloaded file
3. Highlight and copy ALL the text within the file
4. Paste the copied text into the SYS> window
The program will download and run
5. Select Menu Option '1'
6. Select Menu Option '5'
7. When prompted to 'Enter Fill Pattern' type '0000'
8. Select Menu Option '8'

The test procedure above configures the ACRTC for 640x480 2 Colour Single Access Mode, clears the screen, and issues drawing commands to the ACRTC. The ACRTC should execute the drawing commands and produce a test pattern on the attached monitor.

Note:
Steps 5, 6, 7, and 8 are automatically performed by acrtc_diagnostics_v1.12 or later at run time.

IMPORTANT - V1.11 & V1.12
When using acrtc_diagnostics_v1.11 or later a Hex Display Board (Base Address: ABxxxx) must be present.

Unable to download?

Some internet browsers may display the files contents rather than download the file, if so use the following keyboard shortcuts to select ALL the text in the browser window and copy it to the Windows clipboard.

CTRL+A (Select All)
CTRL+C (Copy)

Using Windows Notepad (or equivalent) create a new empty text document and paste the copied text into the document using the following shortcut.

CTRL+P (Paste)
Now save the document and to avoid confusion later name it the same as the download name.
